Kira FlowerChild I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I don't want to look through thousands of comments to determine if that is the case. My biggest problem with this list is that it includes omnibus editions of books as well as single editions. What is the point of that? What difference does it make if you read the book as part of an omnibus edition or as a stand-alone? The votes should be for the individual books, not for various editions.

Yvonne Steininger I simply enjoy reading, many different books, autobiographies, novels, children s poetry books. I enjoy grabbing a book because of the cover or a random new author I have not read before and see how it goes

message 3553: by Richard (new)

Richard I wish the Bible and the Book of Mormon could both be #1, because they're both equally great in worth. I also love having the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. All four of these books are placed in heart, and all four of them sit on my desk at home. I love the scriptures. I wish more could be received/revealed, but what the Lord has given is sufficient for the time being.
The Scriptures exist to testify of Jesus Christ. The Bible can never be replaced, and the Book of Mormon does not devalue the Bible. The Book of Mormon actually helps me appreciate having the Bible.

You should try the Bible! "... for these things did not happen in a corner"!

Phylllis Abrams I just enjoyed your comments. What is your favorite book

message 3557: by Jepha (new)

Jepha How in the hell is Twilight so far up that list?!

message 3558: by Andrew (new)

Andrew O'Neil Because it's a popularity contest, not a quality contest ;)

message 3559: by Kalin (new)

Kalin How does one measure quality?

Dodo Kalin wrote: "How does one measure quality?"

A sure sign, if but one of the few, is books making readers think.

Happy Reading New Year all!

:D

message 3561: by Kalin (new)

Kalin Fair enough. :) Next question is, which readers?

message 3562: by Dodo (new)

Dodo Kalin wrote: "Next question is, which readers?"

Um... Those that can read? Or think? Or perhaps both?

message 3563: by Kalin (new)

Kalin So. Is it safe to assume then that anyone who votes here has an equal say? :)

message 3564: by Maria (new)

Maria This list concerns me. Heading up the list is The Hunger Games, followed farther down the list by Twilight, and The Fault In Our Stars. As a teenage girl, I did thoroughly enjoy these books, but "Best Books Ever"? Literature is a LARGE, constantly evolving beast, but the best books last the ages, cross languages, and help change people for the better despite their upbringings. I think we can agree that these 'trendy' books will not cross cultures like Les Miserables or Shakespeare did. That's the kind of literature that should be heading up this list.

That was a pretty funny comment! *thumbs up*

message 3567: by Kira (new)

Kira FlowerChild I think all the complaints and gripes here can be answered by one statement:

This is a popularity poll, not a poll to determine which books are the best quality, the best written, the most meaningful, the most insightful, or any other standard of excellence.

POP-U-LAR-I-TY. That's the name of the game.

message 3568: by Macarena A. Vilches (new)

Macarena A. Vilches The best is The Lord of The Rings. This triology is magic.

message 3569: by Caitlin "Sparkie" (new)

Caitlin "Sparkie" Really....Twilight? Fifty Shades of Grey? I have lost my faith in humanity.

message 3570: by Gigi (last edited Jan 21, 2015 09:32PM) (new)

Gigi Twilight?
TWILIGHT?????????????????????????????????????????????
What, Who, How!!!!
Fourth on the list of BEST BOOKS EVER!!!!! TWILIGHT IS ABOVE "Pride and Prejudice" and "Gone with the wind"? HOW COULD THIS BE!!!!!

message 3571: by Jesse (new)

Jesse So far the best book I've ever read hands down would be The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch. The entire Gentleman Bastard series is absolutely incredible!

message 3572: by Dani, help (new)

Dani, help Memoirs of a Geisha is my number one book. I never really bothered with bricks for books before. I was a teen and I fell quickly and helplessly in love with each and every single word. I remember being mesmerised by Golden's prose. His metaphors, the language he used embarked me down the path of wanting to write and read. I owe my creative writing diploma and love to read to that man and that glorious book.

message 3573: by Steve (new)

Steve This should be "The list of the most popular books as of today". This is not a list of the best books ever written. If so, "Hunger Games" (which I enjoyed, but would not place in the top 100) would not be listed. Anytime a list says "the best", I am quickly drawn away because the term "the best" is quite relative.

message 3574: by Subha Prasad (new)

Subha Prasad The Hunger Games at #1! That is such a bad choice! It's a great book, undoubtedly, but definitely not the best ever.

message 3575: by Rick (new)

Rick Wood Matilda by Roald Dahl is ranked 138 and 151

message 3576: by Jessabelle (new)

Jessabelle The fault in our stars Slays.

message 3577: by Naomi (new)

Naomi O.M.G! I love the fault in our stars! so sad!

message 3578: by Bkd (new)

Bkd It's not a list of the 'Top 100 Most Critically Acclaimed Books Ever'. This is a list based on opinion and books are entirely subjective.

exactly

message 3580: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Cameron Seriously? The Hunger Games at #1? Twilight at #4? Can't find Grapes of Wrath in the first 600??? This list has no credibility whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the HG series quite a bit, but to put any of them above Grapes of Wrath, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Chronicles of Narnia, Atlas Shrugged... shoot even the Harry Potters are better. Give me a break people. Maybe we shouldn't let anyone under 20 vote...

message 3581: by Kalin (new)

Kalin ... or perhaps open a concentration camp for everyone who dares speak their heart?

Reading these comments is a terrific source of fun. :D

message 3582: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Cameron If they are tallying votes for then we should be able to vote against as well... Twilight doesn't belong in the first 1000...

message 3583: by Kalin (new)

Kalin There's another list called "Worst Books Ever.". ;)

message 3584: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Cameron Kalin wrote: "There's another list called "Worst Books Ever.". ;)"

Sure, but unless they combine the two we won't really know what the best (and worst) books are... ;)

message 3585: by RS (new)

RS Picton In such few pages the captivated child in me experienced the delight, silliness, magic, fun, joy, fear and utter devastation of Raymond Briggs’s ‘The Snowman’. To me this story is perfection; proving my belief that short stories are often the most perfect embodiments of fiction, such as Julia Donaldson's ‘The Gruffalo’ or Maurice Sendak’s ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. There’s no depth of character, there’s no elaborate description. There is just a simple but beautiful story of a boy who forms a magical friendship, only to discover the inevitable fate that awaits his new friend. It’s heart-wrenching ending is one that no child ever forgets. Every Christmas Day I relive that magical story again thanks to the amazing Channel Four short animated film adaptation of the book. The film has no dialogue, just a delightful score by Howard Blake, which suits this simple story perfectly. And now a new generation is being delighted by ‘The Snowman and the Snowdog’, equally enchanting and heartbreaking. I’ll always enjoy reading things like Frankenstein; Of Mice and Men or Twelfth Night; but nothing will stay with me like the Snowman. I will remember it forever.

message 3586: by Krofna (new)

Krofna You should make list for books at least 20 years old cause this list is funny, books that are made for money and fun are first but intelectual books which makes ur spirit better are realy rare and on bad positions!

message 3587: by Oliver (new)

Oliver Hassani Lexi wrote: "No we don't it's people like you who make a big fuss over nothing. You are being immature. And you have to read the whole twilight series to really understand the books and like them. How do we dom..."

I've been reading classic literture since i was 9... i mean, it is mandatory to read classics in school as early as 6th grade... the amount of basic writing errors and poor diction that Meyer uses is apparent on the very first page... so, no, twilight shouldnt even be on a top 1000 book list, let alone, a best books ever list...

message 3588: by [deleted user] (new)

message 3593: by Angel (new)

Angel Me apena mucho no ver en esta pagina ningún libro de Stefan Zweig. No tiene sentido para mi el mejor con muchísima diferencia.

message 3594: by Katie (new)

Katie Rafuse I don't want to complain, but who is voting for Twilight so that it has passed great books on this list, such as the Catcher and the Rye; Dr Suess, and most of the Harry Potter books...

Cheshire Cat [Heidi]~ We're All Mad Here ~ What Angel said, according to Google Translate:

I am very sorry not to see in this product is no book of Stefan Zweig. It makes no sense for me the best with a lot of difference.
