I think its everyones guilty pleasure. Who didnt read that as a kid?

message 2902: by Paul (new)

Paul If the majority on this site are under 25, that's a good thing, it proves people are still reading. And there's hope that their literary tastes will evolve.

Miss Zachary wrote: "I shake in rage as I behold Twilight, a lukewarm book, at the very top of the list. The book Twilight is simply the cheap sadist entertainment of uneducated tweens, and does not merit showing up on..."

Confession: i used to be a fan of the books but that soon changed when they made it into a movie. They didnt do the books any justice with all their weird acting. But when i look at it the books arent all that great to begin with. Twlight was the first vampire book i had ever read so yeah i thought it was good at the time. But i never cared for those grade D movies. I am now officaly tired of the entire franchise. I hope they make no more of my favorite books into movies cause hollywood doesnt know a thing about vampires. And after all the other vampire bookS i read after Twlight, neither does Stephine Myres.

message 2904: by Qaz (new)

Qaz The BEST books ever written.
Not the most popular books ever written. There is a difference between books that are fun to read and amazing books that that deserve to be on this list.

message 2905: by Miss (new)

Miss While the list may not have "The Best Books Ever Written" or "The Most Popular Books of Today", it thrills me just a little to see other peoples opinions about their favorite books or their likes or dislikes. I really appreciate your love for books. And i dont feel like such a book worm. Not many people like to read books as much as i do in my family. To my siblings im considered "weirdly obsessed" with books instead of T.V. I would take a book over a movie anyday. And i know most of you here would too. So im not a werido.

message 2910: by [deleted user] (new)

I LOVE THESE BOOK!!!!!

message 2911: by Manar (new)

Manar Twilight is nice

message 2912: by Suchada (new)

Suchada Praew Twilight at No.2? Seriously? And moreover, it comes up better than Harry Potter.... What's wrong to you people. Honestly, Twilight saga is just nothing but the story of a bimbo teenager girl who doesn't even know what to do with her life! But I have to admit that the Breaking Dawn Pt.2 film is pretty cool., Because of the twist, as I watched it I thought the director must was very creative more than Stephanie Meyer, she totally made it clear when I read the last page of Breaking Dawn ...nothing to remember ...not of any impressions, I tried to think as optimistic as I could but all it did just nothing. I just wanna take back my time that have wasted by reading it for a day!

Rochelle Twilight. TWILIGHT?! and Hunger Games as #1...oh dear

message 2915: by Bestharrypotterfan (new)

Bestharrypotterfan What? twilight's first, it sucks! Harry potter should be first! NOT third!

message 2916: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Hixson Difficult to choose because it is all down to personal opinion. My favourite book of all time os THE SHADOW OF THE WIND by Carlos Ruiz Zafon but it is not even in the top 100.

message 2917: by Peter (new)

Peter Soutar Good God, please don't confuse popular with good...the top ten is full of utter shite.

message 2918: by René (last edited Apr 06, 2013 02:25AM) (new)

René I just had a look at the Top 100 and I was pleasently surprised. Sure Twillight, Harry Potter and Hunger Games shouldn't be in a list of 'The Best Books Ever', but I think it is to be expected that tons of younger users vote the five books they enjoyed into that list.

I am at least happy that a lot of great classics made it into the top 100.

Overall I have to say, calm down people. Sure the top 10 might be shit, but with an open list of all ages, it was to be expected. Just be happy that so many young people today still read. I hope that some of them will develope a good taste in literature though.

message 2919: by Dodo (last edited Apr 05, 2013 10:25AM) (new)

Dodo Hi there!
I`m not sure if anybody else will find this serious, but I do. When we rate (vote for) a book translated from another language, do we rate the source or the translation into English? I read 'Мастер и Маргарита' in Russian and 'Piège pour Cendrillon' in French, and so on. When I vote, I mean the source; yet what`s listed here is translations. One should neither praise nor reprehend a book (translated, in this particular case) one has not read; on the other hand, very few translations into EN (bar the rest of the Big Five and sometimes RU) seem to be good translations... So what`s it that we rate/recommend?

BTW: I have just caught myself downrating books from the Compulsory Reading list. Now I wonder whether I do not like those because I really do not like them or because I still remember having to read them hastily to pass an exam... ;)

message 2920: by [deleted user] (new)

Where are all the good books??

message 2921: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch You will only find a few good books on the first page of this list.

message 2923: by Anietie (new)

Anietie Etteyit You may wish to hoist up TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD several rungs up this ladder...that,in my humble opinion is avery good book

message 2924: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bernstein I think some of you book snobs are just inclined to hate certain books because they're popular. Yes, Twilight is utter crap, but that doesn't mean all the rest of them are.

message 2925: by Bestharrypotterfan (new)

Bestharrypotterfan Andrew wrote: "Difficult to choose because it is all down to personal opinion. My favourite book of all time os THE SHADOW OF THE WIND by Carlos Ruiz Zafon but it is not even in the top 100."

message 2926: by Josh (new)

Josh Dehrji45mx (On YouTube) Oh wow! I loved the Hobbit. One of the best books I ever read. Written by one of my favorite authors J.R.R. Tolkien! The movie was amazing too!

message 2927: by Kaushal (new)

Kaushal Twilight on no.2? What the hell?? This is just...aarrghh!!

message 2928: by Danna (new)

Danna BADLY-WRITTEN YA BOOKS ON TOP??
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE WORLD?

message 2929: by Kat (new)

Kat This is nonsense. There are writers who are so great they enriched the human history with their existence!! there are books that are priceless and literary masterpieces that are timeless.. and you see this?! Top 1 the hunger games? top 2 twilight? Harry potter?? I mean those modern day books are ok, and i read them but what about dickens twain tolstoy gorky camus ...etc etc.. Shakespear for heaven's sake!! these get to be in the same list with their works?! their writings get to be outrun by the hunger games, twilight and harry potter? Nonsense

message 2930: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Obrigewitsch I would say Shakespeare is the most influential author ever. And a tomb of his completed works would be the best book ever written. Like I said earlier, this list should be renamed books with the best marketing campaigns in the last 10 years.

message 2931: by Paul (new)

Paul Kirsten wrote: "I'm annoyed with Twilight. Extremely

Me too! The movies are silly. Vampires who drive Volvos and giant dogs who turn into Chippendale's dancers. Did not create an interest in reading the books.

message 2932: by Paul (new)

Paul Bulger Whenever I feel like crying for humanity, I look at this list. The Hunger Games and Twilight are the first two entries...then Pride and Prejudice isn't even in the top ten...and then Les Miserables isn't until after the 30s...and then Sense and Sensibility and 1984 don't make appearances until after the 50s... I could go on for pages and hours, but I won't. This is sickening.

message 2933: by Degamache1 (new)

message 2941: by Ben (new)

Ben Easton The Count of Monte Cristo. Because of its age not a particularly easy read but(in my opinion)one of the most entertaining books ever written.A story of injustice, endurance, love, jealousy and revenge.

Ben Easton If you're ever marooned on a desert island I'd definately pack it. Then follow it with Les Mis...in the original.

message 2945: by Lesa (new)

message 2946: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Connolly Nikki wrote: "proof that the truth is not democratic =/

Are you seriously groaning about Jane Austen? One of the greatest writers ever? Oh dear. Have you ever read it them? If it's not you taste, that's fine. But I am just so in love with all of her works, especially Pride and Prejudice. Just keep your groans to yourself!

message 2947: by Hilary (new)

Hilary Twilight is above Les Mis? this list is pure crap

message 2948: by Jonathan (last edited Apr 25, 2013 12:51PM) (new)

Jonathan David wrote: "best books according to who?"

According to 13 year old girls spontaneously googling "best book ever".

Really it should be titled "the books that are the most popular at the time being rather than them having any literary merit whatsoever". But I suppose that is a bit longwinded to be the title of a list, so they just shortened it to something a bit misleading, like when you're offered free PIMMS but you're only allowed one glass. :-(

Tis a silly list, and thus I think it should be completely ignored.

message 2949: by Батбаяр (new)

Батбаяр Т I was surprised to find "War and Peace" at 90. Should be one of the top five. But I'm glad that young people are still reading and voting actively. Hope they will try classics some day.

message 2950: by Paul (new)

Paul I think 'Les Mis' is only as high as it is because of the recent movie. And watch for 'Gatsby' to climb closer to where it should be when the latest cinema version of it opens in two weeks.
