JM I clicked on this list and upon seeing the top two books I couldn't help laughing out loud. According to the voters the top two Best Books Ever are... the Hunger Games and Twilight? *facepalm*

Isy Count Vlad Hippocula wrote: "Les Miserable! Les Miserable! Les Miserable!

Did I mention Les Miserables?"
I love Les Mis! Have you seen the musical?

message 2603: by Ray (new)

Ray Teraci I just love that Catch 22.

message 2604: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Crescenzo Why is Twilight above every book on here except The Hunger Games? Twilight is awful and The Hunger Games is mediocre...

message 2605: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Honestly, I read Twilight, and I absolutely hated it. I have no clue why it is on this list AT ALL. (Actually, I do. Because there are some crazy teens out there who like creepy and demented "romance", if you could even call it that.) The Hunger Games was okay-ish at best.

If you really want to read a good Young Adult book, go read The Queen's Thief Series by Megan Whalen Turner. (The King of Attolia wasn't even until the 15th page of this list! Are you kidding? That book is SOOOOO good. Twilight doesn't even compare.)

message 2606: by Alan (new)

Alan Twilight starts with 7 out of 9 sentences, "was" verbs. These verbs don't point forward; they're "balances" (like the scales of justice, without the justice). Much used by talkers and academics, they simply stall writing. Guess no-one knows this anymore.

a reason for everything my friend, the truth in the lies will unfold the mind to its true reality....

message 2608: by Isy (new)

Isy I understand that people like Twilight, I understand that people like The Hunger Games, I like them both well enough, but there's something wrong when they're above classics that have awed audiences for over fifty years.

message 2609: by Robby (new)

Robby Allsopp Hunger games and twilight...ugh

message 2610: by C. J. (new)

C. J. Scurria A lot of the "coolest lately" type of books are near the top. I wonder if that will change a few years from now?. . .
And there are a lot of classic books near the bottom. What's up with that?

message 2611: by Ben (new)

Ben This list makes me want to cry.

message 2612: by Robert (new)

Robert I've read it. It is the worst book I have ever read and I am shocked that anyone could think otherwise. Truly pathetic writing by a con artist.

Jade wrote: "I agree with Becca and Elizabeth.

message 2613: by Alli (new)

Alli I think that Twilight shouldn't be on there, not because it's not a good story idea (I enjoyed the movies) but because the writing is so poor and just pure crap.

I'm voting for John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars" which was one of the best books I've ever read, even if it is a young-adult/teen title.

Steven Marla wrote: "this is the second list--worst books was the first--and i'm done. this is madness. i mean, how many mormons congregated to vote the book of mormon as a top 100 book? really?"

Have you read the Book of Mormon?

message 2615: by Jim (new)

Jim Wow, seriously...."The Hunger Games", the "Harry Potter" series and the "Twilight" series in the top 10 of the best books EVER (repeat EVER!) list?!?!? Go, tweens! Can some more adults over 30 with a bit more perspective weigh in on this list, please?

message 2616: by Laura (new)

Laura I couldn't find "The Fire Ascending". What's up with that? It's the best book ever!

message 2617: by Kelli (new)

Kelli While very popular, I have to question why books such as Twilight and Harry Potter should even be on this list. I seriously doubt books like that would hold up to the test of time like the classics I voted on, such as Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, Charlotte's Web, Gone With the Wind, etc.

message 2618: by Jose (last edited Oct 20, 2012 05:45PM) (new)

Jose Martin This list makes me feel ill. The reason is simple. This is is not about the "best" books, but about the more popular ones.
I like Harry Potter, I hate twilight, and I've never read the Hunger Games.
Don't get me wrong every one has the right to their opinion. And this is mine. In my humble opinion there are far "better" books that should be on the top. In my perfect list I would see Oscar Wilde, Heinrich Boll, Julio Cortázar, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Dostoevsky or Kafka at the top. Kill the top 25 books on this list and replace them with this authors.

message 2619: by Madhura (new)

Madhura Stephanie Meyer's books might have caused a hype. It might be in the list of most popular books, but not in a "best books" list. The others are perfect. :)

There are probably a lot of tweens voting LOL

message 2621: by Neha (new)

Neha The Hunter Games on the top!!! Now thats what i want!!!

message 2622: by Loryane (new)

Loryane Seman Seriously, the Hunger Games is #1?? Who's voting? a million teeenagers?? What a waste of my time and brain cells. Won't do this again.

message 2623: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Well since several Harry Potter books made the list I gotta think it's mostly teens. Glad to see the Book of Mormon was knocked off the list though. I can see the outrage on the first couple pages of this thread! The Handmaidens Tale made it which I read as a teenager and was surprised to see since I didn't realize it was that popular however glad it's there since it was such a provocative read. I think I'll recommend it to my daughters as well. I am glad it's not all classic literature since that's boring but since it is a pop poll and anyone can write in a suggestion and/or vote there isn't going to be 100% agreement, just sayin'. :)

message 2624: by Hidaya (new)

Hidaya The HUnger Games is truely the best!!!!!!! :)

message 2625: by Mohanad (new)

Mohanad that's a funy

message 2626: by Olivia (new)

Olivia There's no way Twilight should be at #2. There's no way it should be at #3, #4 or #5 either.

message 2627: by Emm (new)

Emm I am really annoyed with Twilight and Harry Potter being on top. Ok, The first Harry Potter book, was great, thats why I started reading it when I was little, but thats only because of the Universe she created. The Twilight Saga... Its not deep in any way. Take away Edward and she:s just a girl whi moves to a town where it rains a lot...
I hoped there would be greater books, with bigger meaning.
I mean , how can u not hate Harry Potter-series when u have seen the end? Its like a big middle finger! The bad guy dies, the good one lives on happily ever after....
Wheres A great and terrible beauty?
wheres Until I die?
Wheres Angels and Demons?
And, where is Angel , By Cliff McNish?!

message 2629: by Joseph Monaghan (new)

Joseph Monaghan This is dreadful.

message 2630: by [deleted user] (new)

This list should be called "The Most Popular Books" not the "Best Books Ever". Even though there are some well-written books on the list, most of them are not good at all (Twilight for example).

message 2631: by Alice (new)

Alice I cannot BELIEVE that Hunger Games is number one on this list. What has this world come to!?

message 2632: by Emm (new)

Emm Kaitlyn wrote: "One of the best books to read. It is hard to tell a tale about an inhuman thing *aka EDWARD* and a human girl *aka BELLA* falling in love. This book proves to the theory that opposites attract."

Omg, it doesnt prove anything???

Beyza wrote: "This list should be called "The Most Popular Books" not the "Best Books Ever". Even though there are some well-written books on the list, most of them are not good at all (Twilight for example)."

Agreed. Still, Lord of the Flies for top book. Sorry Harry, Katniss, and Snowball but Lord of the Flies is such a deep classic.

message 2634: by Karen (new)

Karen What is with all the book snobs? This list is a popular vote for the best books. I'm guessing that means the best books to read, not necessarily the most well written, deep or thought provoking. For many people the 'best' is the most entertaining, it doesn't have to be 'literature' to be a good book!

message 2635: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) I'm still voting for the Yellow Pages.

message 2636: by Shelby (new)

Shelby I love harry poter!

message 2637: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) ...maybe the unabridged dictionary?

message 2638: by Gary (new)

Gary Horwood Read Ump, it was going to be made into a movie, but never panned out. Dark comedy.

message 2639: by Ni (new)

Ni hmm...I don't know about Twilight being on this list...it was fine, but...

message 2640: by Sara (new)

Sara I dont think twilight, Hunger Games and Harry Potter even belong to this list.. I miss, however, The Perks of Being a Wallflower!

message 2641: by Marcus (new)

Marcus Hunger Games as number one? Seriously? :)

message 2642: by Heppm01 (new)

Heppm01 Tia wrote: "seriously? 5231 people think THE GIVING TREE is the best book? thats just sad... its a picture book with less than 100 words!!!!"

Wow, you really missed the point of the book.

(And by the way, it's not the quantity of words in a book, but the quality that matters)

message 2643: by Chris (new)

Chris Why is the hunger games #1 I mean its a good book but not like a clockwork orange

message 2644: by Natasha (new)

Natasha How is Twilight second??? I'm sorry but I don't think it even should be on this list

message 2645: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah Should be classics,

message 2646: by Katie (new)

Katie Corbin Cosmos is #896? We live in a world of YA novels, bleh. I'm not even going to get into all amazing must-read classics that are not even in the top 100.

message 2647: by Steve (new)

Steve Gordon A list that only proves that the end is much nigher than we imagined. And, I'm sure Mr. Melville will be proud to know that his works rank right up there with the utter brilliance of "The Life of Pi"... or almost that high anyways.

message 2648: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) But don't approach Twilight, Hunger Games or harry Potter....

message 2649: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Williams Greg wrote: "Wow, some of these folks need to read more. Or age more. Or go to school, or something. I mean, really."
