:)

Actually, as I said in a comment above, I already suggested that this list be renamed to something along the lines of "Our Favorite Books", and "Most Popular Books of the Moment" is even closer to the point. The list creator replied he'd rather not.

So here we are, here we are... ;)

He might get comments to the tune of that all the time. Oh well. Thanks for trying in any case!

Ally Michele Anne wrote: "Isn't there any other book that people could talk about beside Twilight? Nothing against the book just it seems a bit overboard to this book seemingly the only topic on this comment page."

Sure, we can talk about books beside Twilight. It's just that people keep seeing Twilight in number one and feel the need to detail why it shouldn't be there and that the people who voted for it are at best not well-read or at worst completely illiterate. (an assumption that I took some offense to, and I was attempting to defend people who voted for Twilight which is how I wound up talking about it on some level. Even though Twilight's not even on my list.) They don't read through the comments beforehand, so they don't realize that they're being redundant and making Twilight the main topic of conversation.

Personally, I'd like to see more people telling each other what book they put in the number one spot on their own list. I voted "Horse and His Boy" by C.S. Lewis, a book of the Chronicles of Narnia series. I wouldn't say it's my favorite book, just cause I have trouble naming a favorite (I love so many!), but it's one of the few books that I come back to over and over again.

That's one of my favorites too. :D

Keith Helinski It saddens me that Twilight is higher than LOTR! :'(

message 1906: by Keith (new)

Keith Helinski I wrote a nice parody of Twilight. You can check it out in my writing section...

I'm with you. Freakin Twilight? I'm locking myself in my house...this is why Hunter Thompson finally blew his brains out.

I put the books that helped me grow into the human being I am now. Number one is The Neverending Story - because it found me first. Then come David Zindell's Requiem for Homo Sapiens, Peter Beagle's Last Unicorn and Nikolay Tellalov's "Слънце недосегаемо" (Sun Untouchable).

There are many, many beautiful books - but these ones had the greatest impact on my life.

Erica Twilight #1.....really? LMAO

It's the EMO of literature! It's pop garbage with no depth! It's above inarguable classics like Crime and Punishment! That's like arguing that My Chemical Romance is better music than Bach! This place is bonkers! "

I agree with bruce, Twilight is one of not the best book ever. It is indeed one of the most popular books but it has no class or prose compared to the classics of true literature.

I really love The Last Unicorn too! I also voted for that one. It's one of the other books that I might name as my favorite if I was willing to pick a favorite.

message 1913: by Jay (new)

Jay I'm ashamed for those who voted Twilight for the privilege of 'BEST of all time'. I am not knocking the series, but there can be no list more bold than 'best books of all time'. The fact that the top five books have all been written in the last few decades shows how UN-exhaustive this list truly is.

Congrats to Twilight for making #1 on both 'The BEST books of all time' as well as 'The WORST books of all time' truly it does not deserve either title.

What mormon stupidites are you all saying? I'm new here, just saw this list and entered to give ratings. And yes, the Twilight books are in first place, and YES, we all know that the author is mormon, but for the love of god; Have any of you even bothered of going to the next page? and the next and the next? There are wonderful books on this list. I disagree both with the name of the list and the order of the books, and what? Still there are treasures on it. And I will keep on turning the page and voting. For the sake of the good books, not for the sake of the opinion or religion of the people.

I assume the comments you are referring to are on the front page? Check the dates, the book of Mormon used to be very high up on the list, front page and I think #1 at one point. The comments you're referring to could be 2 or more years old, and since then the Book of Mormon has appeared to drop off all together. Not to say that people have any right to be putting down Mormons in the comments (they most certainly do NOT), just that it wasn't Twilight. I agree, there are lots of great books on the list, and people should be voting for their favorites and not bashing anybody else's.

Archana wrote: "JKRowling is great . Has the best imagination ever on earth . I want to become an author like you!"

I find her to be a great writer. But i think the classics deserve the top spot since they have gone through the test of times.

message 1921: by Kalin (new)

Kalin Dan wrote: "But i think the classics deserve the top spot since they have gone through the test of times. "

There's no such test, Dan. It's a common misconception spread by the way they teach literature in schools. :)

What we call 'classics' is what certain people before us - who have been influential for one reason or another - have set apart from the rest. Then, the majority of readers have grabbed onto those people's choice, and have in turn passed it down to the next generation - that is, the next majority of more gullible, less deciding-for-themselves readers. And so on.

(And do you believe the majority can ever be clever? Just look at a list like this one. Look at ^all^ ^those^ ^comments^... :DDD)

Each book stands on its own. Each book's place and importance changes as time passes; as we readers change.

So this list is as good as they come. And it's getting better. ;)

Bill Christ, I just signed because I thought this site was very well made, then grew more and more respectful towards the content... until I saw this!... Twilight... are you kidding me???

message 1926: by Zelia (new)

Zelia Really, a Twilight book as nr. 1? There must be a lot of tweens on this site.

message 1927: by Allison (new)

message 1928: by Shrutika (new)

Shrutika Jha i think the list is good enough bt as i havent really explored beyond my comfort zone and havent read most of the books on it..dont go by my judgement

there's more to life than Twilight and Harry Potter

message 1930: by Kalin (new)

There's, you know, this comment thing. Where you can tell the world what you think. And never you mind that the world has heard it like a google times already...

message 1931: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Manis The first seven titles on this list - best books ever? God help our school systems.

message 1932: by Emmy (new)

Emmy It really bothers me that the top of this list was crowded with Harry Potter and Twilight books. While I'll admit they are popular, there is no way that these are the greatest books ever written! I was pained by the fact that there wasn't more of the classics at the top of that list, like Shakespeare or Steinbeck.

I completely agree with you for Perks of Being a Wallflower; that's one of the best books I've read in a really long time. I totally didn't want it to end!

My case in point. The comment you're replying to is roughly three years old.

message 1936: by Allison (new)

Allison Let's just all agree that this list has been going on for a while now, and just like anything, the books are constantly shifting places and moving amongst the list. Right now, as the last Harry Potter movie came out relatively recently, the HP series is rather high up the list (which, subjectively saying, I think it should be; they're incredible books). Meanwhile, with Twilight, their new movie is coming out soon, so that's why it's popularity is growing in anticipation.

Ally Allison wrote: "Let's just all agree that this list has been going on for a while now, and just like anything, the books are constantly shifting places and moving amongst the list. Right now, as the last Harry Pot..."

I can agree with the books constantly shifting places, as I've witnessed that myself. I pointed out earlier to someone else that this is more "The Most Popular Books of the Moment" than anything else. However, I don't think the position of Harry Potter or Twilight has much to do with their recent film releases... They're just popular books by themselves. They've been high on the list since I first voted on the list three years ago. They will probably drop lower eventually, but I think it'll be two to five years after the film franchise's are done.

First off: Nice name. ;D
I agree with you completely. It'll probably be a long time before either of the series' books drop on the list significantly, and this list really is the "Most Popular" list. I still do think that there might be a little spike in popularity once we get close to the Twilight movie's release, though. But, Kalin's right, it'll be interesting to watch either way.

message 1941: by Scarlett (new)

Scarlett Twilight number one! seriously? I thought it was an okay book, but definitely not worthy of the number one position...what about something really influential or powerful like The diary of Anne Frank, or One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, The Power of One, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, The Bride Price, anything by the Brontes, Jane Austen...something substantial...this feels like a best popular books of now kind of list??

message 1942: by Ally (new)

Possibly there will be a little spike in popularity, but I don't know how much evidence you'll see of it in their positions on this list. My personal guess is that the votes will go up, but not enough to move them from their current spots. I might be wrong, of course. :D I wonder if anyone else has tracked the books in the top ten and how they change in relation to current events.

Now I have to mark down the top ten. lol This could be very interesting to watch indeed.

message 1943: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Kind of funny Twilight is on the worst books and best books list. I loathe it personally, just a little amusing there.

message 1945: by Natalien (new)

Sterotyping. Many tweens and teen HATE Twilight. -Like myself :)- But I agree, it is clearly not representative of litature.

message 1947: by [deleted user] (new)

There is no way on God's green earth Twilight is better then all of those books on that list
