How many people who voted Twilight will have done more than dabbled into other literature? Compare that to the people voting for other literature. People who have read Pride and Prejudice will have read Tess of the D'urbervilles, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and more beyond. In my case, I've read Dune, Foundation, The Stand, Stranger in a Strange Land, Things Fall Apart, Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Some of those I liked, others I didn't. But the point is that most people who voted Twilight have a narrower pool of reference to draw upon when making their decision.
Now can we stop the self-righteous 'OMG TWYLYT IS NOT BEST U R RETARD LOLZ'? The list is arbitrary and a bit of fun.

Older and more mature people would definitely dissagre with the Twilight series being on top of the list because they've obviously reads more books that were better and more enjoyable. I think that this website doesn't contain many adults, but certainly contains many teenage and early 20's people.

While I agree that just because a book is considered a classic doesn't mean it's good, but Twilight? Really?
It's not the fact that everybody loves Twilight, it's just..."
I second that motion!

That's what they do best- inflate the numbers!

I have no idea! Are they joking? His Dark Materials are fabulous and they didn't put it down here :/

Why do we need to use demeaning adjectives? We know Twilight is shallow fluff, but rather than abusing them for indulging in escapist reading, why can't we encourage those who have read only Twilight to read other things? An 'if you liked this, you'll like this' sort of thing? Insulting people is only going to make them more insular and all the more likely to rebuff any suggestions made by that person.
This is an internet book club, for crying out loud, what better place to start encouraging these people to read more widely?
Sigrid: hallelujah to that.

I've read all the books, and even liked them back in the day, but no way would I have ever even put them in this category let alone vote them to the top.
So I just started voting for books I like that are closer to the top in hopes of overcoming the Twilight saga.

Not all books, but quite most of this list is for girls.

I also think if you've only read the Twilight books (and maybe a few similar books) you probably shouldn't vote on polls like this. You have a limited scope of what the best books ever might be.

— Jim Henson
I feel like this quote perfectly and accurately describes this list. Although "Black eye" might be substituted with "Recommend good books" I would suggest the Mortal Instruments to get started as they are the same genre but also a good read.

well read it. just read it and read the whole thing and then see how you feel about it. I'm not mormon and I read the whole thing and actually liked it

Twilight has captured the imagination of the hormonally charged teenage world. i found it vaguely amusing, but cannot believe that it could ever be considered a classic. this book will never go down in history.

Might I suggest trying Brian Lumleys Necroscope series instead.

and why does ..."One of the most silly things I have ever heard. Some sort of mormon conspiracy? Do you really think we all gathered together and said, wouldn't it be funny if we all got together and put the book of mormon at the top of the list? No. We all SEPERATELY thought, what's our favorite book? I decided for myself that the book of mormon was mine. The bishop didn't tell me it was what I had to do, I just decided that that's my favorite book. I can understand your confusion, though. Just read the other comments from people that are NOT members of our church, and realize that it's not terrible. I particularly like Jade's comment- the best books ever are impacting books, and it was certainly impacted my own life.
