message 1352: by Peepin (new)

Peepin What a joke of a list. The Twilight books were horrible. God aweful trash.

message 1353: by Kira (new)

Kira Grimsrud I'm pretty sure this has been said many times, but the Twilight series sucked. But both hating it and liking it increases the popularity. If we just stop talking about it, it'll go away. ._____.
BUT ANYWAY.
There ARE many books on this list that I have read and some that I plan on reading.
Very nice list.

+1

message 1355: by Aryn (new)

Aryn I think I'd like to see a rating system that would give weight to WHY it is a 'great' book. Does it feed one's soul? Fantasies (in whatever form)? Is it just technically wonderful; grammar, syntax, construction? I wish folk would consider some of this in the reviews (I LOVED THIS BOOK is insufficient information/)

Helena Julie wrote: "theese books suck!"
They're just too mature for you, "theese"
and "suck" really?

Elizabeth Lorena wrote: "I am rooting for "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."
I can understand how "The Book of Mormon," is on that list but before The Bible? No way..."

I think it's because there are several versions of the Bible and so few of the BoM. If people vote for their favorite edition, it's bound to be dispersed.

message 1358: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I love how Twilight is in the Top 3 of both the Best Books Of All Time, and the Worst Books of All Time. I don't think it's that bad or good. What exactly is the vampire obsessed world comming to?

message 1359: by Lynossa (last edited Nov 13, 2010 04:50PM) (new)

Lynossa I have no problem with religious books being on the list, but in my opinion the biggest joke is the fact that Twilight books are on the list.

message 1360: by Sassi (new)

Sassi XD Harry Potter is the best! =D Harry Potter!!!

message 1361: by Tess (new)

Tess Hosman what about the vampire diaries?!?!

message 1362: by Britney (new)

Britney Marla wrote: "this is the second list--worst books was the first--and i'm done. this is madness. i mean, how many mormons congregated to vote the book of mormon as a top 100 book? really?"

Don't be a hater...be a bit more open-minded- it really is very ignorant to pass judgement before you have read something yourself.

message 1363: by Tess (new)

Tess Hosman ok...ok evry1! it seems to me that alot of u dnt lik this list...i agree that some books shuld not be on here and some shuld be added but lets be civil ppl here. think of how bad the person that made this list must feel. we all have our own oppinions on which books are the best....it's ok to say which books you lik and dislike but try to rephrase your sentences and speak in a more polite and friendly manner.

message 1364: by Alaura (new)

Alaura Knoble-Yanik WHAT IS THIS?! REALLY! Twilight before Harry Potter AND The Lord of the Rings?

message 1365: by Moez (new)

Moez Love to read them!

message 1366: by Maya (new)

Maya I can't believe there are more raitings on twilight than there are on Harry Potter.

message 1367: by Maya (new)

Maya WHY DOES EVERYONE LOVE TWILIGHT!
yes, it's a good book. idk. but too bad. read something else!

message 1368: by CeJayCe (new)

CeJayCe I can handle Twilight being on the list. I have accepted that it's popularity is out of control and people have devoted too much of their lives to it.

What I CAN'T accept is Twilight being FIRST on the list, surpassing dozens of works of literary genius! What is wrong with people? I'm losing faith in humanity...

April Jess wrote: "Why the @#$% is Twilight on this list???????"

in a way i agree with you, in a way i dont

message 1370: by Dreamer (new)

Dreamer if i go one day without hearing or seeing the word twilight i will eat all my christmas preasents

message 1371: by Leilani (new)

Leilani Echols I agree with a lot of these comments. I actually read Twilight and enjoyed the series, but I would hardly say that they are the best books ever. I do have to say that it's great to see kids are actually reading and are involved in a reading website.

If you are not under the age of 16 and rated the Twilight books as the "best books ever", please go to the bookstore and pick up some new reading material...

message 1372: by ★ Jess (last edited Dec 07, 2010 05:51PM) (new)

★ Jess I am a 15 year old girl. Whilst TWILIGHT was enjoyable-a guilty pleasure-it is far from even having a chance at The Best Book Ever.
The people who voted it there must have not read anything else.
My mind is blow that those books would be winning this list...

message 1373: by Ellen (new)

Ellen Eigner Seriously? You have Twilight on the same list as East of Eden?

message 1374: by Jesse Purvis (new)

Jesse Purvis bahahahahaha The Twilight Series? Really? That is the most horrendous thing that I have ever layed my eyes on.

message 1375: by Brittany (new)

Brittany I'm about to puke. Twilight?! The entire saga of Twilight? Excuse me, but I'm going to throw up now.

message 1376: by Hail150 (new)

Hail150 This is..idk.
Not right.

message 1377: by Maia (new)

Maia TWILIGHT!!!????!!!!! REALLY!!!?!!?!?!
STEPHANIE MEYER AT ALL??!!?!?!
Come on, kids. Read some real novels and get an education. Your tiny minds will be blown. And why isn't LOTR nearer to the top, I wonder?...

message 1378: by William (new)

William Schaefer This list is a sign we have failed miserably as a species..... I mean seriously people???? You are going to pick a book that's been out like how long over a classic like gone with the wind????? Seriously you have some the all time classics and yet you choose the worse of the freakin worse!!!!!!!!

message 1379: by Isabella (new)

Isabella This list is pure RUBBISH.

message 1380: by Ben (new)

Ben *puffing on a pipe so that it forms aesthetically pleasing rings and looks balefully out into the commentary, deploring the avidity that people scribble their indignations* Oh, it's good to be back.

message 1381: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) Twilight at the top? Really?
While I agree that just because a book is considered a classic doesn't mean it's good, but Twilight? Really?
It's not the fact that everybody loves Twilight, it's just the hardcore Twilight fans will make several different accounts to make sure it's the top spaces.
I'm ashamed of that. Someone should delete this list

message 1382: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Why the... what is Twilight or any of Stephenie Meyer's "books" on here? I could write something better than she did during NaNoWriMo. In fact, the first thirty pages of my novel have more literary merit than her entire collected "works", ie - garbage. Her books and the movies are pieces of crap. Only reason they're popular is because all the characters are empty shells that barely relate to life and are not unique or significant in any way. Stupid...

message 1383: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Jazmine wrote: "Twilight is the best book I've read in my entire life! It is awemazing! I love the whole saga and Edward Cullen!"

Have you ever read any real books?

message 1384: by Blake (new)

Blake Bowen Grim Reaper: End of Days is educational in philosophy as well as religion. Has an awesome suspenseful plot, with incredibly deep characters that would put Stephen King's to shame.

As I've been looking through the list,I also notice that I have yet to spot a book from The Dresden Files.

message 1385: by Laura (last edited Dec 16, 2010 09:31AM) (new)

Laura I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE BREAKING DOWN
I' THE BOOK RIGHT NOW

message 1386: by Laura (new)

Laura I'M READING BREAKING DOWN RIGHT NOW

message 1387: by Charlotta (new)

Charlotta Not to say that the Twilight saga is bad or anything but I dont think it belongs on the top of the list Best Books Ever. I've read all of them and thought they are very good but not the best.
Other than the real classics like Mark Twain, Jane Austen or Hemingway, I'd like to see Jodi Picoult or Nicholas Sparks on the top of the list.

message 1388: by Joe (new)

Joe At least the Book of Mormon isn't #1 anymore? I saw a lot of people defending it, but I don't quite understand why a book of worship is on a "best" list of mostly fiction novels. (Although others may argue that it is fiction too).

What I really don't understand is how (at the time of my writing this) the 4 Twilight books are the top 4 on the list. While somewhat entertaining, collectively they have 300 pages of descriptions of swooning. (I skimmed those parts and went straight to the plot).

message 1389: by Leigh (new)

Leigh WHERE IS VAMPIRE ACADEMY???
HOW CAN YOU HAVE CRAP LIKE TWILIGHT AS THE TOP FOUR AND NOT HAVE VA???!!!!

message 1390: by Mina (new)

Mina are you serious?

message 1391: by Pablo (new)

Pablo The problem with quality being "decided" by voting is self evident.

message 1392: by Nina (new)

Nina Why the hell is twilight on top? Are people living on a rock or something? There are tons of literature that are completely more deserving than this book!

message 1393: by Kel (new)

Kel I like a lot of these books, but do not believe that many will stand the test of time--thank God.

message 1394: by Anna (new)

Anna HOW exactly, are these the best books ever if most of them are only 4 stars?

Emory's Defunct Profile What kind of world are we living in, where Twilight is higher on the 'Best Books Ever' list than The Poisonwood Bible, or Lord of the Flies, or even The Book Thief? Are people really that stupid?

message 1396: by Sonia (new)

Sonia Jandir hey ..i love twilight and more importantly edward.
other than the 1st four ,all i know about the rest of the books is their movies...

Emory's Defunct Profile Twilight was okay- it was tolerale, at least. but it does NOT belong at 1st place- or anywhere above most of the classics on this page. I'm not saying the classics are always good, sometimes they're terrible. But in my experience, most of them completly deserve all the attention they have gotten.)

message 1398: by Shiloh (new)

Shiloh Anna wrote: "HOW exactly, are these the best books ever if most of them are only 4 stars?"

That's a good question. I've been reading reviews of some of my favorite books ever recently (neverwhere, hunger games, rumo etc.) and have realized that some people will give a book 1 star just because everyone else likes it. So while some may give the book 5 stars, some will give it 1 or 2 and the others will give it 3 or 4 but most people will generally give it higher numbers giving it an average of around 4 stars. Next time you are looking at some book reviews check out the star distribution.

message 1399: by Gay (new)

Gay After skimming the list and reading several pages of comments, I am convinced that this list of Best Books Ever is not a reliable source of information. To find books from The Book of Mormon to Green Eggs and Ham on he same list is just ridiculous. Does a vote from a 12 yr old carry the same clout as a vote from a college English professor? "best book" is all in the eye of the beholder.

Do you think that a college professor's vote should matter more than a 12 year-old? Who is to say that an adult's opinion matters more than a child's? This list is just a fun way to see what the members of goodreads think. It also shows tastes of the current members, which looks like it's parents, teenagers and certain religions.
