Jd Salinger remove twilight immediately it is absolutely disgusting

message 853: by Jerica (new)

Jerica I agree. You should consider reading The Book of Mormon. You can't say you don't like it until you have read it.

message 854: by Najatoi (new)

Najatoi I love reading these comments.

message 858: by Ash (new)

Ash Platt I swear to God if Twilight is voted the best book of all time, I'm quitting reading altogether.

message 859: by Stephen (new)

Stephen This list loses all credibility by having 'Twilight' at number three. Can we have a seperate list whereby no teenage girls can vote?

message 860: by Casimir (last edited Feb 03, 2010 03:23PM) (new)

Casimir Radon Nevermind, some crybaby deleted my list.

message 861: by Tori (new)

Tori haha

"maybe there should be a list for book for mormones." ahaha. i feel like a nerd for being in this site. whatever i like to read :) ahaha.

message 862: by Dillinger (new)

Dillinger I honestly can't believe that Trainspotting is not on this list. It is the only book that has genuinely made me laugh hysterically from reading. And with such a dark topic as Heroin use, that is no easy feat.

At the end of the day, these lists mean nothing, because it is based on a population that follows trend above personal discovery...and that is where our system fails.

Twilight is evidence of this. I have read the first novel and it seems like it is purposefully catering to a single sex audience, which in my opinion makes it terrible. Something truly magical would be able to touch all, not just a minority...even if that minority is half the known population.

Very disappointing, but hey, life goes on and so does my passion for true art. Not fad fair. One thing I can thank the Twilight series for is that it is getting prepubescent young ladies to reach for books instead of mobile phones...but there are so many underlying teen inspired infatuations and influences in it that it wouldn't surprise me if they were also soon reaching for pregnancy tests.

message 863: by zhen^^ (new)

zhen^^ ♥♥GO GO GO TWILIGHT FAN!!!! vote TWILIGHT!!! cause it's the best novel!!!! and we love really love it!!!!

message 864: by [deleted user] (new)

Twilight - the third best novel of all time? Seriously, what's wrong with all these 3447 voters?

message 865: by Casimir (new)

Casimir Radon To the crybaby who deleted my list, fuck you. It was a simple dream, a list unpolluted by Twilight, the rest of Smeyer's works, any crummy vampire novels riding it's coattails, and Dan Brown. But someone couldn't handle that, they decided to be a big hissy infant, and delete something because it didn't fit in their crummy worldview.

message 868: by Mike (the Paladin) (last edited Feb 09, 2010 03:34PM) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) I to am a "to each there own" type, but come on. Have all you people who think Twilight is "The Best Book Ever" tried reading anything else??? Anything at all???

It's a free country and I support your freedom of choice, but come on, try reading some actual literature, please, for your own sake and the sake of those who love you.

SAVE YOURSELF!

Mike (the Paladin) I may not be impressed with it, (and I'm not) but even if we don't care for it we don't need to insult those who do.

When I saw your post I added it. It is truly a memorable book with many wonderful comments on living life and lessons learned.

Truly a worthwhile read!

message 873: by Marli (last edited Feb 11, 2010 12:52AM) (new)

Marli The fact that one book has managed to influence the lives of millions and millions and millions of people, around the world nonetheless, should maybe give you an idea as to why the Book of Mormon is in the top 10 books. Whether you or I like it or not, it is a fact. I guess the next question would be, have you read it? If the answer is "no" then may I suggest the old, "Don't knock it, 'til you try it"

Yes we do, you mid-to-high functioning retard.

Because I enjoy the taste of their sweet tears.

message 877: by Heather (new)

Heather Very mature of you. And you call Mike a mid-to-high functioning retard. I guess that means that you are just lower than a mid-to-high functioning retard.

Mike (the Paladin) Elly, "Casimir" has made his presence (and possibly his IQ) known before. Apparently he suffers from an inability to communicate with out vulgarity or with logic. I mentioned early on here that I would simply ignore flamers and ghouls. I have tried to follow that policy. I'm happy to discuss ideas or opinions but it's pointless to make a reasoned point only to have it answered by a vulgarity and name calling. So when it starts I let it go and just wait until an actual discussion begins.

message 879: by Casimir (last edited Feb 11, 2010 08:23PM) (new)

Casimir Radon Thank you Senator Blowhard. Now how about wiping the spittle of you shoulder, and parking your Walmart scooter?

Well, I had you figured as too nice to tell Mike to shut up, and then you do that. I have the power to make Mormons act rude.

Why are you saying that it is your favourite film when this website is about books!?

message 882: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Lydia I find this list extremely ridiculous. Twilight, the mormon bible, are you freaky serious?

Sad to see some really good books on the bottom of the list, and the travesties on the top.

message 883: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Lydia This list was horrible in every way. Who created this? Probably a 13 year old girl who is obsessed with edward cullen and dreams of one day becoming mrs.cullen.

message 884: by Nat (last edited Feb 13, 2010 07:10PM) (new)

Nat The book of Mormon in the top five?

This is my funny thing of the day.

message 885: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Kaufman Anyone ever think about adding the Torah? How about the Zohar? How about Clausewitz' On War? Aah, I know what's missing...The Idiot's Guide to Astral Projection.

Mike (the Paladin) You're free to add any book you like... Though I'm not familiar with that last one. Don't care for the Book of Mormon myself, but a lot voted for it. I'd like to see more varied voting. But that's life.

message 889: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Kaufman Try this. The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King translated by Aleister Crowley published by the Propagation of Religious truth in 1904. A word to the wise - be careful with this one

Hate to break it to you, but the Bible is an edited and translated work. I suppose you thought they spoke English back then too. :)

Mike (the Paladin) Stephen: Already familiar with Crowley, though i can't say I'd invite him for a beer. Also slightly familiar with Jones and the Golden Dawn Society....

Not my cup of tea, still...

message 892: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Kaufman Hello there, Mike,
What else have you read lately...or not so lately. I have always had an interest in the arcane and even remember years ago reading books by or about Cagliastro and others of the Golden Dawn.

Mike (the Paladin) Well, in the spirit of complete disclosure, I'm a Christian minister, so I've read quite a bit in a generic sense. My favorite books will be Christian apologists, but years ago read a lot out of curiosity. Occult encyclopedia, Golden Bough a few of those things. I ran across Crowley in connection some of the arcane writers that clustered around Germany just prior to WWII, a lot of them had been influenced by Crowley and his predecessors. Obviously I haven't studied any of it in detail.

Lindsay Casimir wrote: "Lindsay wrote: "Josef wrote: "Todd wrote: "Best and worst list are certainly not meant to be definitive. Best and worst are so subjective. They are merely meant to elicit conversation and thought..."

What? Of course Jesus spoke Hebrew! Well, Greek also (beautiful language BTW) I'm talking about the message of the Bible, silly person!

message 895: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Twilight- I cant understand why it is at the top, but people can think it is good (I preferaby don't), but does it have the potential to become a great classic in future years up to the standards of To Kill A Mocking Bird? Some new books have but twilight dosen't. I'm sorry...

Mike (the Paladin) I agree but that apparently speaks to the people who stop to vote here. My hope is that "most" readers here aren't actually stopping by these lists to vote.

message 897: by Moocow (new)

Moocow If "best books" means literature, then I agree. Do NOT put Twilight on this list. Or The Book of Mormon. But is "best books" means books that have changed people's lives, then The Book of Mormon is # 1. You really have to read it people. Seriously. Even is some Mormons are a bit stuck-up.

Mike (the Paladin) Let me ask a question if I may, and I'm not looking to offend anyone here, but why do Mormons insist on rating the Book of Mormon above the Bible. The argument has been made recently "we're just another Christian denomination", yet over and over here I've seen the BOM rated above the Bible.

I know my own beliefs and I don't ask to be argumentative, I just wonder about the reasoning.

message 899: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay The Bible should come first! (Um, I'm not Mormon btw)

Mike (the Paladin) I have my own beliefs, and I'm not trying to start a debate, I've just seen the BOM rated above the bible in a couple of places and I wondered about the reasoning.
