I would have to disagree. It isn't the best book ever written; but it is better than some books like the Coal Black Horse. That book is THE WORST!!!

H.M. Nana wrote: "Why r u so "annoyed" with Twilight?"

Well...To me, Bella is really shallow and annoying and keeps going on about how beautiful Edward is a yada-yada-ya. I am sorry, but it just really annoys me.

Like ( I am sorry if I am butting in, and this is just my favorites, and my opinion ) The Ropemaker, Sabriel trilogy, Warriors are good, Anita Stansfield is good, and Pillar of Fire.

Ooo! I have one! If you like mystery, you could read Vanished: a Maggie Mackenzie Mystery, Anita Stansfield's books, Sabriel trilogy, The Ropemaker, Faith of Our Fathers, Fool Me Twice, Warrior Heir, The Heritage of Shannara, The Operative, The Goose Girl, The Outsiders, Eragon is good, The Silver Crown is good, Terrier (Beka Cooper, #1), Weregirls, Night World, Shadowmancer, Far Traveler, Listen, First They Killed My Father, The Bishop's Horse Race. Do you need any more?

message 455: by John (new)

John Burns Vampires and mormons. Great list.

message 456: by Lexi (new)

Lexi But I have to disagree. I love twilight. you would really have to think and put urself in bellas shoes , if u had a vamp has a bf then of course u would say those things. People have to rally get into it to like it I am reading it for the 15th time in at least two months. i can't stop reading them. It is like I am literally addicted. People have to have an imagination of course it isn't going to be the best literature. But it has an amazing story

Chloe ok but i think that the book of mormon is true and a good book i think you should beleive in jesus christ and heavenly father the book of mormon and the book of mormon is not a joke.

message 461: by Leah (new)

Leah Twilight is one of the worst books I have ever read. One can enjoy the premise and the story, but it is terribly written. Meyer cannot write and doesn't deserve to be on a "best books of all time" list.

message 462: by Lexi (new)

Lexi How come all the older people hate twilight no offense . I think it is written very well for being her first book series. Like you guys could do any better. I am with ya cloe . Also I have read teh whole twilight series in two to three days reading none stop loving them

message 463: by H.M. (new)

H.M. What I don't like about Twilight is that Bella is all goo-ga eyed over Edward, and I hate the other books, no offense. The only books that I liked in the Twilight series was Twilight and Midnight Sun. I've read better.

message 464: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Serious, I love all of them I just get so into them for the past three days I have read the whole series aside from midnight sun. Jus in three days I read all night and all day I just can't get enough

message 465: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Me to I really did not like the twilight books. They got on my nerves, especially after the movie came out. ugggh!!

message 466: by Rick (new)

Rick Wenner Frankenstein is a timeless classic, that has as much insight on today's issues of genetic engineering as Creighton's best. Should be in the top 100. What were you doing when you were 14?

message 467: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Twilight is amazing how could you guys not like it. Teenagers aren't going to read teh old classics. They or shall I say we like new things but I am only speaking for my entire town.

message 468: by Aiyana (new)

Aiyana Seriously people? It's just a list, calm down, take a deep breath, enjoy a scented bath, do some yoga, whatever just relax. It's not like ninja aliens are going to attack you if your favorite book is not on the top of the list

message 469: by Lyndsay (new)

Lyndsay "Book" - a written or printed work consisting of written pages glued and sewn together along one side and bound in covers.

Perhaps, as people are complaining about many of the selections on this list, it should be remembered that the only qualifications are that they be books. It's not a list of the best literature, the best religious text, the best cheesy pop-fiction- just a list of books.

At any rate, my point is there isn't any qualifications for the books on this list other than that they be books.

message 470: by Kayla (new)

Kayla why?

message 471: by Sage (new)

Sage there are no seriously good books... twilight is getting old and i haven't heard of almost all of these... where is the secret life of bees???? and all of the other good oldish books??? and where are the Jane Austin books!!!!!

message 472: by Sage (new)

Sage oh... and to lexi, you are right to a point... i am a teen, i enjoy twilight, but i love the old books. but i don't read a lot of them, so you are still right... mostly.

Exactly.

message 474: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Twilight is amazing or else it wouldn't be so popular would it??!!! Millions of people love it and they think it is the best book ever. Like me of course. I get so indulged in the story that it becomes my alterante reality. If some people start readign the book just because everyone likes it so much and ur wondering what the heck is wrong with those people , you can't just start readign it with the highest of expecatations. THen you will be like oh y r people makin a big deal about that book. You have to read it because you want to. Then it becomees better

message 475: by Kayla (new)

I've done that multiple times, but it just gets dull.

message 479: by Barb (new)

Barb Many young people do not understand that a book such as Twilight takes a well-worn story line and adds a twist. Those of us who are older and who have read for many more years have read many, many versions of books about the young girl falling in love with the "forbidden" boy, which causes her to fall into danger, which only he can save her from by racing in at the last minute. The fact that Twilight makes his distinction as a vampire instead of a jailbird, of a different race, of a different religion, etc. adds some excitement for this generation. But, seriously, Twilight is not a unique book, although it is entertaining. To be under 20 years of age and say it is the best book you have ever read does not say a lot for a book. This has nothing to do with your age, but with the number of books you have had the opportunity to read. You will always love Twilight, but as you read more over the years, you will separate out your favorites from the best books you have read. A book like To Kill a Mockingbird has no equal. It is unique. The story it tells is original and the message it sends is timeless. It can be read by people of all ages for 100 years and the concepts of racism and justice will continue to ring true. That is what defines a book for a best list.

message 480: by Josephdonn (new)

Josephdonn Jazmine wrote: "Twilight is the best book I've read in my entire life! It is awemazing! I love the whole saga and Edward Cullen!"

You really need to read more, Jazmine! Not only is twilight a cheap ripoff of the horror genre, stephanie meyers has absolutely no talent for writing! Her prose is on the level of a junior high student, and her repetitive descriptions clearly demonstrate her lack of creativity and vocabulary. Please, please, please read more. Try anything by John Steinbeck, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, or Ernest Hemingway. After this introduction to accepted masters of literature, expand your horizons and try some postmodern writer: Salmon Rushdie, Sandra Cisneros, Sherman Alexie, etc. If you really enjoy the horror genre, read the master of it Stephen King; some criticize his commercialism, but his characters are rich and wonderful, and his plots and storytelling are phenomenal.

what twilight????????????????????????
stop ruining our lives fangirls

message 483: by Kendra (new)

Kendra Yah for the most part this list is kind of a joke. I mean Twilight as a 'best book ever' I mean really?

message 484: by Kayla (new)

Kayla ok I agree. There is other books that are way better than twilight but that doesn't mean it isn't awesome! I love that book so much even though I have other favorites. Still, I think twilight deserves to be on this list.

message 485: by Emily (new)

Emily Why is Twilight beating Harry Potter? Twilight has no depth. I actually gave up on Breaking Dawn because of how stupid it was. Harry Potter is epic. It has a great story, great plot, has a nice mixture of funny and sad parts, and J.K. Rowling is amazing! I read every single one of the Harry Potter books 10+ times and I'm still not tired of it.

message 486: by Kendra (new)

Kendra That's where I would agree with you Emily, Harry Potter is better and you can follow the lives of the characters and grow up with them, Twilight on the other hand, not so much. I guess I love my vampires older, sexier I don't know I just didn't click with Twilight and I've etried...

message 487: by Paul (new)

Paul Kovatch If everyone jumps off the bridge will you follow?....peer pressure!

Sumner Wilson Dear Kirsten:

In regarding your request for directions to the Shack, that's easy, it's out back, where it should be.

Joking, Kirsten.

Thanks,
Sumner Wilson

message 490: by Sumner (last edited Aug 23, 2009 03:11PM) (new)

Sumner Wilson The best book ever isn't even on the list. But, I'll settle for Moby Dick, until it shows.

The poll should be the "The best book I've ever read." That would solve the problem, I believe. No arguments.

Thanks,
Sumner Wilson

Thank You for saying it! Seriously, I want to vote for all the books but Twilight to try to move Twilight down on the list.

message 493: by Josephine (new)

Josephine Tucci I am also deeply annoyed that people would vote Twilight one of the best books they ever read. What does this say about literature today? Twilight reminds me of Bridges of Madison County, everybody read it and raved about, a movie was made, but the reality is both books were poorly written and just a quickly passing fancy.

message 494: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Ok people...What good does it do to keep saying that twilight is poorly written and shouldn't be on the best book list??? It is SO stupid how big a deal you are all making this. You may have your own opinions but that doesn't mean you're right. Many people love twilight (including me) so even though you may not like it, other people do and thats why it's on this list. So stop talkn about twilight like it's the worst book and just drop it because saying these things doesn't change anything.

message 495: by Kirti (new)

Kirti I agree. Everyone is free to have their own list of top 100 books..:) Also, what James meant was probably that there are a lot of other great books which have been left out in this list, which are better contenders for this place..:)

message 496: by Jay (new)

Jay Twilight is the best book ever? Really? And I suppose The Jonas Bros. are the best band ever, right?

This is just sad.

message 497: by Kayla (last edited Aug 31, 2009 04:02PM) (new)

Kayla Whats that supposed to even mean? No one ever said that. Did any of you even read my last quote?!?! Geez, listen to it. By the way, I HATE the jonas brothers so don't EVEN think about comparing them to twilight.

message 499: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Blair I'm still in LOVE with Harry Potter the most!

message 500: by Laura (new)

Laura I'm glad to see The Book of Mormon is on the top 100 list. The Mormon Church turns me off. However, their teachings -- such as The Book of Mormon -- some of the things said really hit home for me. The Church itself is big business. Just read their books.
