Mi nombre es Karina Astudillo Barahona, nací en Guayaquil, Ecuador, uno de los sitios más biodiversos de nuestra querida Tierra, hogar de las tortugas Galápagos y de los piqueros patas azules (boobies).

Desde mi infancia establecí una fuerte relación con los libros gracias a mi padre, quien me leía cuentos todas las noches antes de dormirme. A veces las historias me resultaban tan interesantes que luchaba contra el sueño para poder oír el final.

En mi juventud sentí un gran interés por las computadoras y mis padres me dieron como regalo de mi cumpleaños número 14 una Sinclair TK 95. De más está decirles que pasaba mis tardes - luego de hacer mis deberes por supuesto :-D - programando rústicos juegos de video en lenguaje Basic, los cuales juga Mi nombre es Karina Astudillo Barahona, nací en Guayaquil, Ecuador, uno de los sitios más biodiversos de nuestra querida Tierra, hogar de las tortugas Galápagos y de los piqueros patas azules (boobies).

De más está decirles que pasaba mis tardes - luego de hacer mis deberes por supuesto :-D - programando rústicos juegos de video en lenguaje Basic, los cuales jugaba luego con mis amigos del barrio.

Por tanto, no fue sorpresa para nadie cuando ingresé a estudiar Ingeniería en Computación en la Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), y luego de graduarme empecé a trabajar en la misma ESPOL como Asistente de Redes del Centro de Cómputo y como docente de la Facultad de Ingeniería en Computación (FIEC) allá por 1995-1996.

Desde entonces he recorrido un largo camino entre switches, routers, servidores, firewalls, Java apps, en fin. Me especialicé primero en Solaris de Sun Microsystems, luego en equipos Cisco Systems, después en Linux y Windows y terminé incursionando en un área poco abordada en mi país: la seguridad informática.

Mi pasión por el hacking ético, la computación forense y las medidas defensivas me hicieron convencer a mi mejor amiga de fundar Elixircorp en el 2007 y con apenas $800 de capital suscrito iniciamos un sueño que hoy es una realidad y tiene un lugar reconocido en el mercado de la Seguridad Informática.

Nuestros cursos y talleres se hicieron poquito a poco un lugar en el mercado, al punto de recibir solicitudes de estudiantes de otros países que nos pedían desarrollar capacitación online. Fue esta la razón de incursionar en la escritura de libros técnicos y Dios mediante, esperamos que tenga la acogida que anhelamos y poder así seguir colaborando con la comunidad de colegas de seguridad informática tanto de habla hispana como inglesa.
