This is a terrific read. The actual fantasy element is still relatively undeveloped with the storyline revolving around battles for power in the equivalent of Middle Age kingdoms. Armoured knights fight using long swords, lances, battleaxes and so on. But there is a hint of a major fantasy event brewing in the coming winter. Winters in this world tend to last for years. A Game of Thrones #1 in A Song of Ice and Fire series
The land of Westeros is where the most bloody game of thrones there has ever been takes place. This book smacks of history with touches of fantasy which only adds to the storytelling(it isn't forced in like some series do that are scared of giving a history feel and think that they will lose readers for it. this book proves them wrong).
