Powerful first person fictional narrative of Maleeka Madison, a bright, dark-skinned girl attending an underperforming middle school. Maleeka is caught between wanting to do well in school and fitting in with her bullying peers. I found Maleeka to be a riveting character who I was rooting for from the get-go. There are some hard moments though when she is bullied into making some bad choices. Through a new, English teacher, she discovers her gift for writing. Great read for showing bullied girl ...more
