I have to say, a lot of the books that usually involve "dark" magic just really don't speak to me. I mean, don't get me wrong. I love the whole magic genre, I just feel that a lot of authors who try to pursue that do it the wrong way.

I find Holly Black's work to be delightfully twisted, dark, and fun to escape in for a little while, although I don't think I would want to live there. Cassel lives in a world where fear of the wrong person's touch causes everyone to don gloves at all times. A touch can make you love someone you hate, change our memories, change your shape, or just kill you.
