I originally read this in high school. I read it again since it was currently on sale and its OCTAVIA BUTLER.
If Octavia wasn't already my favorite writer, she would be all over again.
This book is so excellent. I couldn't put it down. it made me want to reread The Road
It was interesting to see the themes she explores in all of her books: community

No one did race in SF better than Octavia Butler. It's a damn shame she left this world so early, because I really want to live in a world where she was able to complete this series.

Published in 1994, the novel's premise is that climate change has wrecked the US economy, which is frighteningly real today. I really enjoyed the character development and thought-provoking ideas.
