I'd give it 3.5 stars. I liked the idea behind this one. A lot of things happen that aren't fully sketched out, and the ending is a bit deus ex machina, but I liked the overall worldbuilding, I empathized with the main character, and I liked the other characters as well. It was actually the first "angel" book that I enjoyed reading.

Meridian is a fenestra, and her job is to safely shepherd souls into the afterlife. Because of this, dying things have always surrounded her. I'll be reading the next

I didn't think I'd really be interested in this book, this genre. It's, dark, lovely and tender, and many of my students, especially female (though not exclusively) read and declared it good. I've just started the sequel, and Kizer's writing simply pulls one in more smoothly with each subsequent read. ...more
