My third time reading this and it's still a beautifully built, tragic story of survival and hope.
Katniss is a survivor. Above all else, she's one of those people who just doesn't know how to fail. She knows every situation comes with obstacles so she doesn't get blindsided by them. I love her as a character. I love her spunk and her willfulness but what I love most of all is that the thing that does blindside her is LOVE.

The Hunger Games tackles the age-old question of the consequences of war on society. Katniss Everdeen proves to be a worthy protaganist, a girl who represents bravery, courage and survival all into one. Throw in a developing love triangle and you have a book that is a quick, easy read that I believe not only caters to the tweenage crowd, but also any adult who ever pondered what they would do if forced to survive in a society that did not value freedom.

Tautly written, each thought or memory has a payoff later in the story. That the main character is never sure how much of her feelings are really her own, how much are in rebellion to authority and how much are for the audience is, I think, a great way to get into the confusion of adolescence. I'm looking forward to see how the politics of the series will develop, but I think I might take a short break to read something for grown-ups.

Excellent. But I don't think this is our future. It's our present. America is the capital. And the poor nations are the districts. We (not I) Google Kim kardashian and Miley Cyrus when 1,000's lay dead in the Philippians. And even more starve to death in Africa. Think about it.
