The Hunger Games tackles the age-old question of the consequences of war on society. Katniss Everdeen proves to be a worthy protaganist, a girl who represents bravery, courage and survival all into one. Throw in a developing love triangle and you have a book that is a quick, easy read that I believe not only caters to the tweenage crowd, but also any adult who ever pondered what they would do if forced to survive in a society that did not value freedom.

I don't normally write reviews, but given the hype surrounding this series, this was one occasion where I feel the need to briefly express my opinion about this series.
I thought books one and two were good, but not great, and I was quite happy to leave it at that. Yet, the more I'm beaten over the head by people who love THG, the more I find myself really disliking this series, and really not feeling very motivated to read the final installment soon, if at all.

We hear and have seen that the people are stronger then their government, that together we could all over throw a corrupted government, but what happens when the government wins? This has been Panem's predicament for the past 74 years where they have been forced to relive the consequences of their acts by being force by the Capitol to play in what is known as the hunger games.

Tautly written, each thought or memory has a payoff later in the story. That the main character is never sure how much of her feelings are really her own, how much are in rebellion to authority and how much are for the audience is, I think, a great way to get into the confusion of adolescence. I'm looking forward to see how the politics of the series will develop, but I think I might take a short break to read something for grown-ups.

After months of people raving about this book, I was finally motivated to pick it up after visiting a fifth grade class. Just as I had stepped in, they had finished reading it. And the teacher held the book up to us and said. Best. Book. Ever.
What's not to like? Post-apocalyptic setting, tough heroine, reality tv, commentary on violence, youth and the nation state.
Oh right...angst-y teenage romance fantasies.

Excellent. But I don't think this is our future. It's our present. America is the capital. And the poor nations are the districts. We (not I) Google Kim kardashian and Miley Cyrus when 1,000's lay dead in the Philippians. And even more starve to death in Africa. Think about it.

Pretty great. A young adult spin on 'Battle Royale,' with a strong female protagonist.
