"The Lost Art of Mixing" is the sequel to Bauermeister's "The School of Essential Ingredients" (which I have also read) and unlike some sequels, this one does not disappoint. At the end of "School" it's implied that the characters have more of their stories to share and in "Lost Art" we are gratified to hear them.
The people first brought together in Lillian's kitchen for cooking class, have paired off...but not always romantically. Each one is fulfilling a need of the other, while continuing to support each other as a group as well.
What I love most about Bauermeister's works are that they are simple stories, told through beautiful writing, that make them feel like extraordinary stories. Reading her books is akin to eating chicken soup and hot chocolate on a cold winter night. They just make you feel warmer...better...whole again. Although this review is about the 2nd title, I recommend both. Read them this winter.
