[close] This was hands-down the best read of the summer for me...I could not put it down. DiSclafani is a master at keeping the most provocative secret of the story hidden until the end, while keeping the reader so enthralled in the current scene that they forget what it was they are waiting for...until it's referenced again.
I think this piece is another reminder of the significant injustices shown to girls, especially young girls, in the time of The Depression, but unfortunately also still today. It's unfortunate and disappointing that one of the most significant things that girls today have in common with those from 80 years ago is that they are still made to feel guilty just for being female, even with no other offenses against them.
