A different take on the dystopian novel, told from the viewpoint of a bee hive, and in particular a female worker. I have to say that, as a person who has very strong feelings regarding bees (wasps, hornets, anything really that stings) I wasn't sure what I'd think of this book...but the truth is I loved it. It made me see honeybees in a whole new light, and I love the creative way Paull used a beehive as a world.
The main character is a female worker bee, born into the lowest caste in the hive, and "deformed" to boot. Yet she rises through the ranks, breaking the rules as she goes, and proving herself to be invaluable to the hive and the Queen.
I suspect this will be a popular book group title this year.
