Reads like a who's who of famous writers and painters in Paris from 1907-1932. Although it's title suggests that it's Alice's story in reality it is really Stein's life, not too long, not too indepth but with casual mentions of people.
Anyone reading the 1001 list can make a list of authors whose books appear in the list, Gide, Wyndham Lewis, H.G.Wells etc
