This is just delicious! Tom is so irascible, such a complete misanthrope!! Each time he thinks he's set, something else comes up and the vise tightens. Tom Ripley is clearly a sociopath, and yet I found myself fully empathizing with him. Talk about tension!

Several years ago, I was really on a mystery kick - wanting to read all the old mysteries by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Dashiell Hammett. At that time I learned that The Talented Mr. Ripley (I'd seen the movie) was written by a woman in the 1950s.
