A friend of mine is a history professor. She often reminds me that people have not always thought the way we think. I had to keep that in mind as I read this lovely story of Lily Bart. It was hard not to judge Lily by 2010 standards. I had to accept that Lily was a product of her time and place. She made the best of life in her world as she could. Nevertheless it was hard to watch her life unravel.
