A classic, required reading in high school, that I think has never gotten the attention is deserves. I am always haunted by it's theme of Edna walking straight into the ocean of the Gulf of Mexico and never coming back.

The novella is worth reading ten times. Of course, I would wish for a better ending, but given the times that Chopin lived in, it's amazing that she wrote this book about a woman imprisoned in marriage and child rearing at all.

Eh. I wasn't a huge fan of the story, itself, but Norton's critical essays and historical background boost the overall book's rating.
