OK I'm switching translations. I was reading Père Goriot translated by Henry Reed (published by Signet). Now I'm reading Pere Goriot translated by Ellen Marriage (published by Barnes & Noble). Ellen Marriage's translation is livelier, more French-seeming, and more entertaining. I don't know which translation is more accurate, just which one I like better to read.
