I got this book in Singapore, my boyfriend bought it for me. I know this is the book to start with when you're a Banana novice, but I started with Tsugumi first. It wasn't disappointing, I like it even better than Kitchen.

Kitchen is a story about loss and loneliness. I like how Banana roams around with her stories, teases with her characters and plots, and finally touches us with her words. I like how the ending works. I even like Moonlight shadow, the second short story in the book, better.

Very good but not great. I really wanted more from the first story. I hope she exands it someday and writes a full novel from the story. She's got some great characters...I would love to know more about all of them. The second story was overly sentimental...could have lived without. ...more

This was the first Yoshimoto book I picked up and I was immediately hooked on her concise writing style and interesting themes. The stories in this book mostly revolve around grief and food, and undeniable combination.
