This is a quirky story told from the perspective of each member of a family who rent a holiday home in the English countryside for the summer. When a mysterious stranger arrives, you get a facet of her from each description but never enough to complete the whole picture of who she might be. Anyone who loves the english language will love this book. I loved the stream of conscious writing and the pull the words had on me.

I'm still not sure what to think of this one. I wish we could do "half star" ratings, because while I'd give this one a 4 for technical merit, I only rated it a 3 for overal merit. Very clever story, intriguing premise and the writing was certainly creative--stream of consciousness at times, ongoing lists at others, random thoughts....but it made for a very distracting and schizophrenic reading experience. This book was very disappointing, in so many ways. The book started off very slow for me. It took me a couple of chapters before I was able to get into the book. Once I figured out what was going on with the story, I found myself lost with a few of the chapters that didn't seem to have anything to do with the plot. I had finally made it to the end and felt there was no conclusion to the story. ...more
