I have to say that I was expecting a bit more out of this book - maybe it was the Pulitzer Prize that got me, or Diaz's affiliation with MIT as a professor in the Writing department. It was generally an entertaining read, with experimental stream of consciousness writing and interesting intersections with history (with great use of extensive - and snarky - footnotes). The characters were lively and mostly outrageous, but I think what got me was the fact that I couldn't stop feeling sorry for Osc

I really enjoyed this one. The historical information and the setting were great. The characters were really interesting and I'm kind of a sucker for a multi-generational story. (view spoiler) and there were definitely spots where I wanted the characters or the story to be fleshed out a little more.

I really liked this book because it felt so real. Even though Oscar is a character that is so unlike anyone I know, you can deffinitelly relate to him. It was a great follow-up to In the Time of the Butterflies, because it reinforces the same historical events from the DR history.
