I am not sure what I think of The Corrections. Undoubtably, it is very well done. It is also a book that I think of as very male, in a particularly pompous way. In a move that will make sense only to those who attended Swarthmore with me, this is the kind of novel that a Spike boy would write. Given that Frazen went to Swarthmore, I can map him exactly on to the social scene of that small college and he would probably have been someone who made it clear that in no way was I (or about 1300 of the

I didn't necessarily want to like this book, but he is an incredibly talented writer. I can't say any of the characters are all that likable, but Franzen does a good job showing some of the uglier human emotions.
