Wow, Cunningham is one of those writers who make me feel so mortal. By following the parallels and intersections of the day in a life of three women, including Virginia Woolf, in different times, he meditates on the hours of our life, those that are fulfilling, and those that are too much to bear.

A tour de force, I read it twice in one sitting. It took him 7 years to do the research for this book, to become Virginia Woolf in three different time periods. Amazing read. A classic, particularly for writers who want to tell a story from different points of view and make it cohesive. Right up there with Kingsolver's Poisonwood Bible.

I don't know enough about Virgina Woolf. That's my fault as Cummingham makes clear in The Hours. I'll make up for that.
