The Japanese culture has always fascinated me! My cousin has lived there for nearly 30 years and has always shared bits of the Land of the Rising Sun through her stories and trinkets (Hello Kitty!!)
But this book further sparked my interest in Japan and the once capitol of Kyoto. This book became all the more real when I walked the actual streets of Kyoto in 2006. Loved this book. Incredibly disappointed by the movie that I saw on DVD because I knew I wouldn't like it. I just think the story is so readable and you really root for the heroine. He gives you such an in depth description of the time and place. My only complaint may be that the war years are quite glossed over.
