Arthur Golden made a great effort to show geishas' world from the inside and from American (Westener) point of view. Book explains relations between geishas, owners of teahouses and geishas' houses in a way that a laic can understand. It shows a difference between real Geisha , lower class geisha and a prostitute.

Talk about getting swept up. There's no way that you don't get swept up in this wonderfully written tale that takes you back to the heyday of the geishas in Japan. Absolutely gorgeous book, the people, the culture, the writing - gorgeous! ...more
