I read "Vineland" earlier and enjoyed it but mentally set it aside as a lesser Pynchon work. Rereading it in 2018, it becomes clear that this novel about paranoia in the Reagan years is actually a voice from the future, a prophecy of the US in the second decade of the 21st century.
