Oh Perfume, Perfume, Perfume. This book would've gotten three stars if it weren't for the middle section. Seriously, when I initially read the back cover, I half-expected people to drop dead left and right while the batshit insane Jean-Baptiste Grenouille created his "ultimate scent" - which he does but it takes a long time to get there, folks! I should REALLY learn that the teaser summary isn't the entire book. For shame, Rachel, for shame.

I am not really sure what to say about this book...the ending truly threw me for a loop - from page 232 on, I couldn't believe what I was reading and I couldn't put the book down because I had to know how it was all going to end.
Suskind did a fantastic job of making me feel sorry for and loathe Grenouille at the same time. His prose pulled me in, not only to the story, but to the characters as well. ...more

I recently saw the movie and I was blown away. Tragic, different, thought-provoking, disturbing and haunting are a few words I can come up with to describe the film adaptation. I can't wait to read the book.
