A long, packed book about the Trueba family in South American country. Full of tragedies, historical moments, fired up romance: a true epic.
Even though it's long, this book is still enjoyable, and the translation version is also good. Isabel Allende is a master of storytelling. I can't get enough of the Truebas and even googled the history of Chile after reading this book. ...more

Love Love Love!
The foreshadowing was wonderful! The characters were wonderful(although there were many of them)! The magic, the interactions, the love.... wonderful wonderful wonderful. The point of view changes were a bit confusing throughout the book but were wrapped up nicely in the end. RECOMMENDED!

Great book. As I'm not the biggest fan of literaure from Latin/South America - this really good. It doesn't show off with scenes of sex and violance.

I read this in a Spanish lit class in college and then again in English on my own. It's the story of the Trueba family in Chile. Some parts are totally brutal but it's a good generational/historical story and Allende's writing style is great.
