I don't remember the middle part of the novel being quite so boring. Of course, I was in HS when I read it the first time so I'm sure I thought the whole thing was scandalous from start to finish - now, it feels very "god, people are so boring". And a weird push/pull between being a very feminist work and having very misogynistic undertones at times. Still, Irving can write a hell of a sentence. ...more
