Can't recall when I read this book but it was long time ago. I loved the unusual characters and plot. John Irving has the ability to truly bring literary characters to life; this book was an accurate reflection. The book is even better than the film!

OK, so I'm not a John Irving fan, but I did enjoy Garp. The one scene that has really stuck with me over the years was when Garp and his wife were looking at a house to buy and an airplane crashed into it. Garp then exclaimed that the house was perfect...because what were the odds that it would ever be hit by an airplane again? That idea really made an impression on me.
I also loved the character of Roberta. She is so real...not cartoonish or freakish...but real person with real feelings, hopes, ...more
