I'm of the age and nationality where the whole reds under the beds leaves me scratching my head. The fact that two people were put to death seemingly due to an hysterical reaction to communism, and not based on any real evidence.

For the first half of this book, I thought I was really going to like it, but it kept getting weirder and weirder as I kept reading. By the end of the book, I had to drop my rating from 4 stars to 3. It's saving grace was sheer creativity. This was a very strange book.
