Ugh, I just couldn't do it. I tried, but I just couldn't. It hurt. It was painful. I *tried* to make it to page 50 for Nancy's Rule of 50, but I couldn't even get that far! Page 1, I hated it. Page 12, I still hated it. Page 18, wanted to kill myself. Page 20... What, did this just get better? Oh... no, it didn't. Page 25, let's skip a few pages. Page 30.... God, get it away from me! Tossed the book down, and walked away.

This was a classic that I read for my book club. I can certainly see its merits. I just thought the book was too slow and a bit disturbing. It is expected that it would be disturbing based on the subject matter, but it was written in such a way to make it just tough to read.
It is good because of the way the characters are written, they are very multi-dimensional. It is also interesting to see a description of a mental institution of the 60s, there is definitely a lot a lot of implications to the ...more
