I wish I could go back in time and be a college English major just so I could write a paper on Rabbit, Run. Silly, huh? But it's true. This book has so much rich material I don't even know where to begin.

I didn't expect to like this book but it sucked me right in. Updike said he wrote it as a response to one of my all time favorites, Kerouac's On The Road. I see it as On The Road meets The Great Gatsby, my ALL time favorite. Rabbit, Run is the story of the American Dream. In this case the vacuit

This book leaves you reeling. It's hard to say how you feel about anything when it is done. It was fascinating watching the dominoes fall; every single action was in reaction to another, and you just wanted a chance to go back to the beginning and smooth things over, but they just kept falling. People tried to catch them, but their arms would fill and dominoes would spill out all over, no stopping them.

written in 1960 or not, I was constantly uncomfortable by the repeated use of the word "negress." Now with the PC police out of the way, my first Updike(a new play-school series for BA English majors?) experience was good enough to delve in for seconds. ...more

A book about baby boomers coming of age. The story follows one man who cannot make up his mind about what he wants in life and destroys many lives in his chosen path. I pitied everyone in the book.
