People haven't been able to have children for a generation, people are panicking over the human race ending but I don't think that after a generation that would be a problem with the population numbers but people are panicking anyway, maybe the lack of reproduction doesn't bug me because I've never wanted kids lol... and if a society is so concerned about finding a fertile male, why would you ignore a big chunk of the population because they have a disability, even a minor one?

I loved this book. I've seen the movie, but not for a very long time, and the book was certainly different, but amazing. The characters were flawed, and lovely, and the ending was just vague enough to leave me wanting more, but still was very satisfying.

And oh, what a world to create! What a fascinating problem she set up. I was dying to know how the rest of the world was handling it. Loved loved loved this book.

Decent book, some pretty big differences from the movie. May be one of the few times I've heard people say that the movie is better and actually agreed. In all fairness though, this could be because I saw the movie first. ...more

Like many people, I saw the movie first; and it is quite different from the book. However, I consider the movie to be a good adaptation, an excellent example of porting the feeling of an artistic work over very different media. I can't say how much I would have enjoyed this book without seeing the movie, but I did enjoy the both... I liked the movie better though. ...more
