Unusually for me, I saw the movie of this before I read the book. Both are excellent, but very different. In both, the population of the world has lost the ability to have children, there is one pregnant woman, and a few people including the main character trying to help her. Beyond that, the two diverge pretty wildly and are more like different interpretations rather than an original and an adaptation.

People haven't been able to have children for a generation, people are panicking over the human race ending but I don't think that after a generation that would be a problem with the population numbers but people are panicking anyway, maybe the lack of reproduction doesn't bug me because I've never wanted kids lol... and if a society is so concerned about finding a fertile male, why would you ignore a big chunk of the population because they have a disability, even a minor one?

Decent book, some pretty big differences from the movie. May be one of the few times I've heard people say that the movie is better and actually agreed. In all fairness though, this could be because I saw the movie first.
