One thing I liked about the story is that the protagonist is male, but spends the book looking for his soul mate. Doesn't happen all that often with male authors.

Excellent read and not your typical apocalyptic novel. Portions of Soft Apocalypse reminded me of Atwood's Year of the Flood. The story line also hits a little close to home with the current economic situation in the US.
