Rewritten after rereading in July 2012.
This darkly humorous satire starts with a world financial crisis in 1986 (hopefully that’s where the similarity with current times ends), leading to WW3 – though it’s not really about either: it’s fundamentally about adaptation.

Brilliant. What else can I say? Not a spare word or unneeded thought, just a perfectly perfect and completely unique book.

This is the first thing I read by Vonnegut. He was the first author I really connected with, and the book totally knocked me off my evolutionary pedestal. I think it says a great deal toward how ridiculous it is to be cocky about anything, when we're all here totally by chance.

This is my second time reading _Galapagos_. The first time through I was too young to appreciate its dark humor. This time through it rings with brilliant, cynical resonance. This ranks as one of Vonnegut's best.
