Cinder lives in New Beiijing and works as a mechanic. SHe is a cyborg and therefore property of her stepmother. Her life changes one day when Prince Kai walks into her shop for her to repair his android. A modern re-telling of the Cinderella story, its twists and imaginings in a post war society is fascinating.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cleverly put together, loosely based story of a cyborg Cinderella from Earth. It's sort of a Cinderella meets blade runner. Takes place in the future where there are androids, cyborgs and beings from the Moon called Lunars all mixed together with the nuts and bolts of the well known fairy tale. This is a great book for teens of any age as well as adults. Loved it, totally light and fun.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this. It's a futuristic sci-fi take on Cinderella with quite a few twists in the story. Very clever. I found sections to be a bit too simplistic, I realize it's YA but it felt dumb-ed down, particularly the lack of detail in the mechanics of the cyborgs and the world leaders meeting. This is a futuristic, dystopian retelling of Cinderella, where Linh-Cinder is a cyborg--36% mechanical, primarily in her arm and leg. She was adopted by Linh-Garan after the surgeries to replace her damaged limbs and cannot remember her earlier life. Since her adoptive father's death from the plague affecting the kingdom, she has lived with her stepmother and two stepsisters in New Beijing. She works as a mechanic in the marketplace, repairing Androids and other technology.

Not super emotionally involving for me... but very entertaining. I'll definitely continue the series. I can do without persistent dudes repeatedly asking girls on dates in attempts to wear them down. Thankfully Cinder was enough of a badass for me to push through. ...more
