At first this book was really annoying me. Grammatically it seems a bit sloppily edited, almost as if the editor was just thinking, "Well, this is another fantasy YA book in a new influx of fantasy YA books." And didn't expect it to take off quiet the way it did. Either that or the version on Kindle was pulled from like the 1st pass page files instead of the final files. What's a better teen fantasy than a reality show including make-overs and violent death? This one is designed to be an exciting movie (casting's already begun) and I tore right through it. Peeta could have used a little more personality, but it's all about Katniss anyway. The reader did a good job with voices and I've already started the next one. ...more

Tore through this book and thought the story was interesting and the pacing outstanding. The author uses excellent plot shifts and suspense to entice the writer. This book is recommended.

I read this book because the movie is coming out, but I had no expectation that I'd like it. I thought it might be a version of the Twilight books. My expectations were completely unfair. Although it's clearly for the "Twilight" era young reader, it's a much better book. Strong women characters, a slightly unrealistic world, but still interesting. A main character who is complicated, flawed and well worth rooting for. A fun read! ...more

Wow, quick read! Think I set a new personal best at about 6 hours, including time for eating, drinking, etc. I love the smart, resourceful girl narrator but disliked the romantic entanglements plots. Boring! That said, I can't wait to see the movie. ...more

Finished this in a day. Very quick, action packed read. Not your average youth book, but excellent all things considered. Definitely will be picking up the other two.
