Loved this! It was zombie killers a la Clint Eastwood. There was a western flavor to this that I really liked.
Benny Imura is fifteen years old and looking for a job. His older brother Tom is a bounty hunter but Benny can't stand the idea of working with him because Tom is a coward. What kind of "man" would run away from his parents and not try to save them from the zombie horde? But that's just what Tom did, taking his infant brother Benny with him.

I have read some great zombie books this year. Sadly, this one fell short by a few marks.
- The first part of the book was long and preachy. I mean, loooong and preachy about zombie's being human and mebbe having feelings and the real bad guys are the humans and why can't we all get along anyway? I was ready to pummel Tom Imura over the head with his katana.

Rot and Ruin is set in a post-apocalyptic zombie infested California where a group of survivors have formed a community about fourteen years after First Night, the night the zombies rose from the dead. Benny Imura, on his fifteenth birthday has to look for a job in order to earn his rations. After sifting through several jobs that he didn’t like or wasn’t cut out for, he joins his half-brother Tom in the family business—killing zombies. Tom is strong both physically and mentally, honorable, and

While this was definitely aimed at boys, with all the action and super-hero brother with near unbelievable prowess, that doesn't mean anyone won't enjoy it. A quick read, it had me rooting for Benny and glad when the story didn't go in the direction that it seemed it was going. It did lag a bit for me in the middle, maybe I was tired of all the zombie fighting, but it's a book that's worth sticking with. The ending might be expected at a certain point, but it's touching and fitting. An enjoyable

I thought this was a 5 star read. I would highly recommend it to zombie fans of all ages. While this is a YA novel, dark themes (including torture, kidnapping and murder) make it seem like it isn't. Some very great characters as well! This appears to have a sequel in the works for 2011, which I can't wait for. Between this storyline and the Joe Ledger novels, this author is quickly becoming a favorite.
