Fascinating dystopian novel, a lot of elements of our future are probably in this story. Of course it didn't really have an ending, this being the first in a trilogy, and I will most likely read two and three.

The first half of this book, while it built necessary anticipation, seemed to drag on forever. I think Atwood took too long to reveal the reason for the human race's extinction, and for the first two hundred pages or so we would be told half of the story, about Crake's Children, and I'd just wonder--why are these people eating their own excrement?? And why are they not normal people, but instead some weird, inhuman race?? And then Atwood finally did reveal all of the secrets and the book really

I "read" this one as an unabridged audio book. A great story, well read, made my commute fly by. As usual I won't get into the storyline but just recommend you read it. I read it because it's billed as an "end of the world" story and while that's technically true, half the story occurs in the protagonists head. While not an uncommon literary trick, it works well for Oryx and Crake. And the premise that Mrs. Atwood gives for the end of the world is very believable and possible.
