I'm surprised this book hasn't become more popular with the birth (and re-birth) of the CBS show Jericho, which borrows both premise and key conflicts from Pat Frank's novel.

This book, while dated, will freak you the hell out. I read this a few times as a kid, being a fan of post-apocalyptic stories. Later books by authors such as Stephen King borrow scenery and ideas about what a post-apocalyptic world would be like. It's chilling and bare bones in its description.

One of the better post-apocalyptic novels I've read. Made me want to stock up on canned goods and brush up on my telegraph skills.
