I quite enjoyed Lucifer's Hammer though did have a couple of issues.

The plot if fairly simple, a huge meteor strikes the earth ending civilization as we know it. Europe becomes a smoldering creator, Russia and China fire nukes at each other turning themselves into so much irradiated slag, and giant tsunami's reclaim vast swathes of coastal America for the oceans. I read this book decades ago, but I love the genre. It was a fun, exciting story.

Good set up but begins to fail around 400 pages. After the big bang, you're left following the lives of too many characters whom you never really come to care about. Note to future authors, don't name three of your main characters Harry, Harvey and Hardy. It's needlessly confusing. ...more

This is a long book (24 1/2 hours on audio), which I think could have been trimmed a little. I found it hard to keep all the characters straight. That said it was an engaging book, leaving many pictures and ideas lingering in my mind. The first third is about the approach of the comet, the middle about the hit and immediate aftermath, and the last third covers time a little further out and who people deal with everything being changed and the loss of most modern conveniences and government.

Interesting enough to keep me going, vivid imagery. Follows some of the same formulaic post-apocalyptic good vs. evil, civilized vs. madness. The novel got predictably blase in terms of the romantic/political struggles, which seemed forced and out of place.
