A friend gave me this as a gift. I love the Penguin Classic reprints. They are so clever and if you really study the covers, they give you so many clues! This book doesn't need clues. That's not a bad thing.

If I had to pick a few words to describe this book, I think I'd use "wry" and "existential". I loved reading it, having its pages of vivid prose and its characters' self-serving, pseudo-intellectual analysis of their world wash over me. i never will list books i dislike, unless i think they're unusually corrupt. delillo's navel gazing is late 20th century anti-humanist satire. he has only a passing interest in his themes (like nazism) that seem more like comic-book level references, defeat the interplay of things you would label 'ironic' this is a tool to make the upper middle class sedate, uncomfortable in mind but comfortable in cash. call it paradox and write flesh not joke laden bones. david foster wallace is a step down fr
